Local Radio Collects Over 5,000 Shoeboxes at Area Chick-Fil-As
Black Mountain, NC – November 19, 2007 – Chick-Fil-A and 106.9 the Light partnered during Operation Christmas Child Collection Week resulting in over 5,000 shoeboxes collected for children around the world.
During November 12 through 16, 106.9 the Light traveled to ten Chick-Fil-A restaurants in Asheville, Charlotte, Gastonia, Hendersonville, Hickory, Mooresville, Morganton, Shelby (North Carolina), and Spartanburg (South Carolina). Listeners were encouraged to drop off shoeboxes during lunch or dinner times and received a free Chick-Fil-A sandwich for doing so.
The three year partnership has resulted in 8,865 shoeboxes being collected for Operation Christmas Child.
“It was amazing to see how people responded and to hear the different stories about how Operation Christmas Child has touched so many lives,” said Jim Kirkland, General Manager for 106.9 the Light.
Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse which provides an opportunity for people of all ages to be involved in a simple, hands-on missions outreach while focusing on the true meaning of Christmas – Jesus Christ, God’s greatest gift. Along with shoe box gifts, millions of children are given Gospel booklets in their own language.
Founded by Billy and Ruth Graham in 1962, 106.9 the Light’s mission is to lead as many people as possible into a personal and dynamic relationship with Jesus Christ.
