When you talk about people and their children, it brings out strong opinions. That was the case when we talked about a proposal by school districts in 17 states to go to a four-day, school week, next year.
On a completely different note, scientists tell us the earthquake in Chile was so big that it actually shortened the length of our days. We need more time not less! That led to a discussion of what you would do with just an extra 10 minutes a day.
We also talked about the case of the missing ice cream cone in my wife’s car.
Today we talked about a vice-president at Microsoft that wants to tax the internet to pay for internet security. We also chatted about whether you should wash clothes you buy new from the store before you wear them. I shared some lessons learned from an unusual place, a new TV show called “The Marriage Ref.”
I’m feeling like I truly belong in North Carolina now. My cars have NC plates. We chatted about what makes a home, home. We also talked about McKay Hatch, a teen who stared a no cussing club that has turned into a movement. That kind of morphed into kids, teachers and parents talking about bringing up polite kids today.
A jam-packed show today as we cover the Miami man who decided he was going to take it upon himself to find shelter for people in Haiti. We also talked about the kid directing air traffic on the ground at JFK airport in New York. We shared stories about who the most adventurous parent is in your family. And we talked about Captain Sully retiring.
The picture is of Giuliano Stroe, currently the Guinness Book of World Records holder for world’s strongest child. He can do 20 guy push-ups and walk on his hands for over 30 feet while holding a weight between his legs. He’s one little boy I dont’ think I’d mess with. That got us to talking about extraordinary things that your child can do. We also shared the story of actor Mark Harmon from NCIS. We talked about Michael W. Smith on his media tour of New York to promote the song “Come Together Now” and Haiti relief.
Today we talked about true love and how it’s portrayed in the movies. I shared how my three-year-old can’t keep a secret when it comes to mom’s birthday. And we heard a great story from my friend Travis who accidentally ended up in the women’s restroom at Wal-Mart with his two toddlers.
Today we talked about the Olympian who missed a chance to compete because he turned off his cell phone. We also talked about sin taxes on junk food and whether or not they are a good idea.
We shared a couple stories about the “kindness of strangers.”
My 20th high school reunion is coming up next year, and I wasn’t sure about whether I should go or not. Lots of people chimed in with all the reasons attending your high school reunion is a good idea. Happy listening.
